TEDx Amsterdam Education

TEDxAmsterdamED is the first Education-focused TEDx Event in the Netherlands. In 2013 Jessika Lynch and Nephtalie Demei took the opportunity to pursue their own vision and passion, and decided to apply for a TEDx-licence – and I was part of their founding team!

TED is a typical ‘Love Brand’ – and most people want to be affiliated with it. The entire event is built on (and by) sponsoring and volunteers dedicating their time, ideas and energy to help people spread their ideas and thus create a successful event. So, by helping TED, you get the chance to make the world a little bit more beautiful! What more do you want?

At TEDxAmsterdamED, I combined my two professional passions: Marketing & Communications and Education. The first year, I coordinated the MarComms team and I helped developing a strategy for the event communications. The second year I was responsible for external communications and printed materials. Both editions of TEDxAmsterdam took place in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In my last  year, I advised the MarComms Team on a strategic level.

Working for TED was so fulfilling, plus I got to learn a lot! Besides broadening my experience in event organisation, I got a flavour of what it’s like to work with only volunteers. This is such a different dynamics! Plus – there was no budget, so you get to be really creative (here it comes in handy that everybody loves TED). Last but not least, I got to work on a topic that I’m really passionate about: Education. There’s so many great ideas out there, so many people that want to change the education system and the field they’re operating in. Teachers, parents, students, but also other people that try to change the world through education. It’s wonderful! And there’s so much more to come …
